Used in aromatherapy, skin care products and baths, Jasmine essential
oil has many physical and emotional healing effects. It can be used to
promote sleep and to ease feelings of depression. Its warming,
intoxicating fragrance can help to stimulate the brain, and to
encourage feelings of harmony and optimism, as well as inspiration,
passion and joy. Regarded as the Queen of Flowers, Jasmine is
an effective aphrodisiac. Jasmine oil has antiseptic properties which make
it beneficial for various skin disorders. It has skin softening properties
and is beneficial to dry, sensitive or inflamed skin, especially when the
condition is related to emotional stress.
For centuries in Egypt and India, only the privileged were permitted
access to the expensive Jasmine Oil. To get an ounce of oil, 40
pounds of flowers must be picked- before dawn when the flower is
at its aromatic peak. It takes 8 million flowers to create 1kg of oil.
